SLU FSA Advocacy revolves around educating and informing our general body members on Philippine cultural history and traditions, as well as current news, events, & social issues in the Philippines, St. Louis, and the SLU community. It also provides our members lessons regarding Filipino culture and heritage. To that end, SLU FSA hosts a variety of activities centered around cultural awareness and advocacy to fulfill our mission as a cultural student organization and as students at an insitution that puts Social Justice at the forefront.
These activities are coordinated by our Advocacy Chair, Samantha Dayrit. Under her direction, SLU FSA host's the following events and activities: GBM cultural lessons, all FAHM activities, Mx. SLUniverse Pageant, and Atlas Week events.

Filipino American History Month (FAHM)*, established in October 1988, commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinxs in the continental U.S. On October 18, 1587, "Luzones Indios" came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Esperanza, landing at what is now Morro Bay, California.
During FAHM, SLU FSA educates our organization on many aspects of Filipino American history, as well as Philippine tradition. THis manifests itself in several events in October, including a Cultural Dance Workshop, Anakbayan workshop, Arnis Workshop, and Kamayan.
During FAHM, the Cultural Dance Committee holds a Tinikling workshop for all members to learn the traditional dance.
Every year, SLU FSA invites members of the Chicago Chapter of Anakbayan-USA to educate members on Philippine Social Justice and Cultural history.
Every year, SLU FSA invites members of GAT- St. Louis to teach members the traditional Filipino martial art, Arnis.
FSA hosts a Kamayan ("by hand") feast in order to educate members on this important food tradition, as well as to educate members on traditional Filipino foods.
FSA hosts Halo-Halo Lumpia Night as another way to educate members on Filipino foods, specifically on Halo-Halo and Lumpia. The Lumpia is hand-made by Exec. Board members, and the Halo-Halo is made to order at the event!
