About Showcase 2025

The Filipino Student Association is proud to present the theme of the 26th Annual Showcase: Mangarap (To Those Who Dream), based on the award winning fim, La La Land.

FSA's 26th Annual Showcase will be occuring Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Saint Louis University Wool Ballrooms! Below is a summary of what we offer and more information!

In Mangarap, the Kuya/Ading duo Simon and Maria have different dreams for their futures. While Mr. CDC, Simon, wants to build a Filipino cultural dance studio, Maria, a modern dancer, dreams to take her dancing to the professional level and doesn’t see the value in Filipino cultural dancing. In our La La Land-inspired skit, full of laughter, drama, and maybe even some tinikling dancing??? Come along as Simon and Maria explore their dreams!

Showcase Dances

Tinikling

Choreographed by: Cultural Dance Committee

Tinikling is a traditional Philippine folk dance which originated during the Spanish colonial era. The dance involves at least two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance.

Kuratsa

Sayaw sa Payong

Choreographed by: Kristine Manlongat & Marianne Mercurio

Also known as the Umbrella Dance, dancers perform intricate and synchronized movements with umbrellas to symbolize the beauty of courtship, camaraderie, and unity among the Filipino people.

Sayaw sa Bangko

Choreographed by: Cultural Dance Committee

Filipino folk dance that originated in Pangasinan consists of dancers performing and showing their incredible acrobatics skills and teamwork by dancing on a narrow bench.

Maglalatik

Choreographed by: Paul Ongkiko & Zach Ramirez

A Philippine folk dance performed by male dancers. Coconut shell halves are secured onto the dancers' hands and on vests, upon which are hung four or six more coconut shell halves. The dancers are shirtless and wear only pants.

Binasuan

Choreographed by: Elena Cabigas, Hannah Hellmeier, & Aaron Pilac

A traditional Filipino dance originally from Pangasinan, where performers balance glasses of water on their heads and hands while moving gracefully in sync with the music. The dance requires precision and balance as the dancers execute various steps, twirls, and turns with skill and elegance.

Modern

Choreographed by: James Cruz, Maia Peregrino, & Ava Nierva

Dancers perform dynamic routines to popular hip-hop and pop songs, blending rhythm, energy, and creativity.

Pasigin

Choreographed by: Michelle Magsaysay & Katrina Nguyen

Filipino folk dance originating from the Visayas region. It is a playful and lively depiction of fishermen scooping for fish, featuring intricate footwork, swishing, swashing, and scooping movements.

Modern Tinikling

Choreographed by: Sara Estrada & Amanda Kovathana

Tinikling is a traditional Filipino dance where dancers skillfully leap between bamboo sticks clicking in rhythm with the music. When paired with a modern song, it combines fast-paced, energetic movements blending cultural heritage with contemporary energy.

Jon & Ani

Singing the passionate ballad All I Ask and the ethereal serenity of Euphoria in a duet that floats between heartache and bliss, creating a powerful and soothing soundscape for the audience to enjoy.

Kayla & Mia

Prepare for Mia and Kayla to whisk you away on a magic carpet ride as they soar through a “Whole New World.” Sit back, enjoy, and remember--no one to tell us no!

Angelina & Emi

Enjoy the sweet angelic sounds of these beautiful women of FSA. As they sing their rendition of this extremely underground song, embark on their heavenly journey. Not gonna lie, rehearsals with them have been rough, so maybe this time they’ll sing on key!

Isang Direksyon

4 words. AJ, Cody, Mark, & Gibby. Must. See. TV. 4 of FSA’s many talented members. Performing a melody of songs that capture the Filipino heart down to its core (they’re love songs).
